Critical Vision" Tony Harrison Photography" (1953 - 2026)

An exhibition of the photography of Tony Harrison, in celebration of his life and work, will take place in Terrace Greenhouse commencing 29th July 2026.

The exhibition features examples of his work in portraiture, fashion, modelling, hairstyling, advertising and the music industry, both in Perth and London. It includes photographs of well- known characters such as Rowan Atkinson, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, Greta Scacchi and David Mallett, globally renowned Australian hairdresser famoufor his "Parisiachic". Exhibited are photographs featured in magazines such as Australian Style, Annabella, Donna and the German edition of Vogue as well as candid photography that captured moments in time such as the Brixton Riots in London, Big Day Out and Bindoon Rock concerts. There are also examples of beautiful photographic memories and portraits Tony gifted to friends and family.

Tony had a keen eye and was an expert in the use of light to create a beautiful photograph. He was skilled in relating to, and relaxing his subjects enabling him to capture the essence of character. The exhibition showcases his exceptional dark room skills in stunning black and white images. Tony had an eye for beauty. In his later years he developed a process to create artistic photographs of orchids and insects.

A favourite is his iconic image of the Western Australian Opera singer, Lisa Harper Brown wearing nothing but skin paint, crouched next to a cheetah in Perth Zoo. He commented, ‘The cheetah purring was as noisy as a tractor.' The photograph was used for the promotion of the production of, "Alcina - The Sorceress" in 1996.

Tony Harrison's photography was sought after for portfolio work and promoted the advancement of careers of people in various industries. He was passionate about sharing his skills and generously encouraged and mentored photographers. Tony loved beauty, life and loved to help others.
